Minimum rates

Minimum rates define the lowest allowed room price. You work with default minimum rates and can selectively override them per period and sub-period, using a clear hierarchy and full control per setting.

What are minimum rates in RevControl?

Minimum rates define the lowest price at which a room may be sold.
They help protect margins, maintain positioning, and ensure pricing stays within desired boundaries.

Minimum rates are applied:

  • per room type
  • per day of the week
  • within a fixed hierarchy of default, periods, and sub-periods

Where do you configure minimum rates?

You manage minimum rates via:

Settings → Rates → Minimum Rates

On this page you’ll find:

  • The default minimum rates
  • All relevant periods and any sub-periods
  • A table with minimum rates per day of the week
  • Actions to copy, restore, and confirm values

Period visibility and navigation

By default, RevControl only shows active periods for the selected month.
Inactive periods are hidden to keep the overview clear.

You can make inactive periods visible by:

  • enabling the Show inactive filter in the top-right corner, or
  • clicking an inactive period in the list on the right

On the right-hand side of the screen you’ll see:

  • all periods that (partly) fall within the selected month
  • both main periods and sub-periods

The search field searches across all periods, including those outside the selected month.
Using the calendar, you can easily switch to another month; the period overview updates automatically.

Default minimum rates

Default minimum rates always form the base layer.

They apply:

  • to all dates
  • when no period or sub-period is active
  • and for any settings that are not explicitly overridden

You can configure default minimum rates per:

  • room type
  • day of the week

Minimum rates per period

Periods allow minimum rates to vary over time, for example for:

  • seasons
  • holidays
  • events
  • specific weeks or weekends

When a period is active:

  • you can choose to override the default minimum rates, or
  • continue using the default values

This is controlled per period using Override default Minimum Rates.

Common actions within a period

  • Copy values from default period
Copies the default minimum rates into this period.
  • Restore original values
Restores the original settings for this period.

Sub-periods within a period

RevControl supports sub-periods: periods that fall entirely within another period.

Sub-periods are used for exceptions, such as:

  • a holiday within a month
  • a school break within the high season
  • a specific weekend with different minimum rates

Sub-periods:

  • always take priority over their parent period
  • can override the parent period’s minimum rates
  • inherit the parent values by default until you adjust them

The option Override parent Minimum Rates determines whether a sub-period uses its own minimum rates.

Order and priority of minimum rates

For each date, RevControl determines the applicable minimum rate using this fixed hierarchy:

  1. Sub-period (if active and configured)
  2. Period
  3. Default minimum rates

The most specific configuration always takes precedence.

Selective application of minimum rates

Minimum rates work independently from other settings.

This means:

  • you can adjust minimum rates per period
  • without affecting other settings (such as occupancy supplements or maximum rates)
  • each setting type follows its own override logic

This allows periods to be used in a very targeted way.

Practical example

Default

  • Mon–Thu: €100
  • Fri–Sat: €140
  • Sun: €120

Period: High season

  • Override default minimum rates
  • Minimum rates increased to €130–€150

Sub-period: School holiday

  • Override parent minimum rates
  • Further increase to €150–€170

Result:

  • Outside periods → default minimum rates
  • During high season → increased minimum rates
  • During school holidays → highest minimum rates

Confirming changes

Changes only become active after clicking: Confirm all changes

Until then, existing settings remain in effect.

Common terms and synonyms

Users may refer to minimum rates as:

  • minimum prices
  • price floors
  • rate floors
  • lower price limits

In RevControl, the official term is Minimum Rates.

Summary

  • Minimum rates define the lowest allowed room price
  • You work with default, periods, and sub-periods
  • Sub-periods override periods; periods override defaults
  • Per period, you decide whether minimum rates are overridden
  • This provides maximum control with minimal complexity
