Why do my room type rates differ or why can’t I set a price?
Rounding settings, minimum or maximum rates can cause unexpected differences between room types or block certain prices.
Common situations
-
Two room types that should have the same rate show different prices.
-
You cannot lower or increase a rate to the level you expect.
-
The price difference between room types is not what you configured.
-
The issue only occurs at certain rates; at other levels it works fine.
Possible causes
-
Rounding settings
RevControl automatically rounds rates (for example to whole numbers or multiples of 5). Because this is applied per room type, differences may occur. -
Minimum or maximum rates
If a calculated or manually entered rate is below or above the set boundaries, RevControl will automatically correct it to the nearest allowed value. -
Derived room types
When a room type is set with a markup or discount compared to another room type, the resulting price is rounded again. This can cause the actual difference to be larger or smaller than expected.
Special attention: Round to list of allowed rates
The rounding option “Round to list of allowed rates” (Settings → Rate Recommendation → How to round the Competitor/Combined/Published Rate (for derived channels)) makes RevControl round rates to the closest value from a predefined list.
-
If the calculated rate is not in the list, it will be rounded to the nearest allowed value.
-
This can make it seem as if a rate is “stuck” and cannot be reduced or increased further.
-
For derived room types, the price difference can deviate from what you configured, because both rates are rounded to values from the list.
Tip: Regularly check whether the list of allowed rates fits your current pricing strategy. A list that is too restrictive may cause unexpected differences or prevent certain prices from being used.
What you can do
Review your rounding settings in the Rate Recommendation Settings.
-
Adjust the list of allowed rates or choose another rounding method if you need more flexibility.
-
Check if your minimum and maximum rates align with your pricing strategy.
-
Adjust the markup or discount between room types via Settings - Mapping - Export setup, if rounding affects the intended difference too much.
